Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, performs moderately complex design, modification and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment. Designs, specifies and acquires the necessary equipment to support production and upgrades to the shop floor to increase production capacity and capability. Acts as Project lead for modified or new equipment projects from small to mid-size projects ranging up to $1,000M with budget responsibility.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Designs, develops and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment and machinery for mass production.
2. Produces, updates and communicates product specification documents defining modification or new equipment.
3. Maintain appropriate engineering procedures throughout the product development process to achieve engineering deliverables which include cost, reliability and manufacturing objectives.
4. Identifies safety and non-safety issues in regards to manufacturing equipment, processes and areas of improvement to productivity or find a resolution to safety issues; researches vendor solutions to recommend a viable solution.
5. Collaborates with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with drawings and designs for modifications on existing and new equipment.
6. Recommends new processes for new products; creates design for new equipment for mass production.
7. Subject Matter Expert in AutoCAD; updates software and provides guidance to less-experienced users.
8. Champions project work such as providing the infrastructure (layout of machine, construction for base) for new manufacturing equipment machines.
9. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1.Intermediate knowledge of electrical, mechanical, manufacturing processes and trouble-shooting methods and techniques.
2.Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team.
3.Ability to work in a detailed-oriented environment with basic follow-up and organizational ability.
4. Strong application of critical thinking skills along with exceptional problem solving skills.
5.Strong multi-tasking skills, flexibility in responding to rapidly changing, dynamic processes and demands/pressures in a fast-paced environment.
6.Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization and transfer knowledge across functional groups.
7.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations for customers, clients and other employees across functional groups/matrix format.
8.Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamental of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Working knowledge of solid mechanics, dynamics, statics and theromo-dynamics.
9.Deal with practical problems and/or issues involving a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
10.Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Auto-Cad, SolidWorks and Inventor.

Education and/or Experience:
Education and/or Experience: (The following qualifications can be acquired and demonstrated through experience, education and/or vocational training as noted or as appropriate.)
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and 4 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Water industry experience, a plus.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES:
1. Professional Engineering – P.E., a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and/or WORK ENVIRONMENT: (Typical physical demands and the work environment characteristics an employee must meet and encounter while performing the essential functions of the job. 1. Ability to work at desk for extended periods of times.
2. Ability to stand and walk around the facilities for extended periods of time.
3. Perform walkthrough inspections of all facilities (both inside and outside plant) which requires exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels above 80 decibels and use of personal protective equipment in certain areas.
4. Attend meetings off-site.
5. Ability to travel in and outside CONUS up to 10% per year.
6. Must be able to work extended hours per the demands of the business.
7. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
