Hydranautics is Awarded Carboneras

Oceanside, CA: Hydranautics, the world’s leader in membrane technology has been awarded the largest seawater desalination plant in Europe and one of the largest in the world. Hydranautics will supply 12,096 SWC3 (Seawater Composite) membrane elements operated in 10 trains producing 120,000 m3/day (32 MGD) of desalinated water from the Mediterranean Ocean. Carboneras, located on the southeast coast of Spain, is being built to supply desalinated water to their large agricultural area and potable water to the urban areas. The ministry is investing over $300 million dollars to develop this project, which is due to startup in November this year.

Carboneras is the latest in the many desalination plants using the SWC membrane element in Spain and the Canary Islands. Among these are Las Palmas III, Sureste, Santa Cruz, La Aldea, and many others. Hydranautics’ SWC3 elements are known in the industry as the high performance choice for seawater desalination. Hydranautics’ SWC3 provides excellent salt rejection and high permeate flow. With more installed capacity than any other, the SWC membrane provides unparalleled and consistent operating performance. With dozens of large-scale desalination installations worldwide, Hydranautics is hard at work producing the world's pure drinking water.
