Hydranautics' Membranes Selected for Fujairah

Oceanside, CA…Hydranautics, the world's leader in membrane technology, has been chosen to supply the reverse osmosis membranes for the Fujairah seawater desalination project in the U.A.E. The plant consists of 284,000 m3/day(75 MGD) of MSF (Multi-Stage Flash Distillation) and 170,475 m3/day(45 MGD) of SWRO capacity for the production of potable water. The SWRO plant will utilize over 21,000 SWC3 (Seawater Composite Polyamide) and ESPA (Energy Savings Polyamide) elements arranged in a two pass design. With an anticipated start-up date of June 30, 2003, this will make Fujairah not only the largest hybrid MSF/RO installation but also the largest SWRO plant in the world! The design of the hybrid system allows power plants to maximize and balance the use of power, water consumption and water quality to produce the best performance at the lowest operating costs.

Hydranautics was selected to provide the seawater and brackish membranes by Ondeo-Degremont, the supplier of the RO system to Doosan of Korea, the prime contractor of the project. "We are delighted to be chosen," stated Larry Pelegrin, Hydranautics' VP of Sales and Marketing. "This project added to our recent awards for other major SWRO plants such as Tampa Bay in the USA and Carboneras in Spain confirm our belief that customers view our SWC products as the technology of choice for major, state-of-the-art, seawater RO plants. This also confirms Hydranautics' strong commitment to the Middle East desalination market."

Hydranautics was chosen because of their extensive experience in SWRO technology; over 1 million m3/Day (264 MGD) of seawater are purified into drinking water every day with Hydranautics' SWC membranes. In addition, Hydranautics provides experienced local support through sales and service offices and warehouses in the Middle East.
